Althea Stevens hates writing “bios” about herself as an artist – but it seems they are necessary to belong to a gallery, be in a show, or even a member of the local art community.
Thus, she began drawing at age two -- and hasn’t stopped since. Horses, dogs, humans, new species -- all of which seem quite real at the time. When she was a small child, she thought EVERBODY must be an artist. (It was just part of life.)
Gradually, however, she discovered that such talent (or curse) was not universal. Artists were more correctly designated “the weird ones.”
As one of them, she gradually added painting and sculpture to her repertoire. She majored in ART in college -- and on into graduate school. Growing, experimenting, having fun, and feeling important. (The “feeling important” part has all but evaporated.) In present view, having an advanced art degree doesn’t seem to mean anything.
Althea has worked as a fashion illustrator and nature illustrator. She considered teaching—but is extremely shy. Thus, at this time, she just does her art: drawing, painting, clay pottery and sculpture -- and hopes that her works will be seen and appreciated. She has no sales rep, nor does she know how to be one.
She strives to create beauty in all of her artistic endeavors (which are many).
A force behind all of her imagery is to celebrate Nature and Life.
