Lorie Setterberg has lived in Mariposa for a relatively short time, and prior to that lived in Monterey County for twenty-five years. She received her Baccalaureate degree in Geography at San Jose State University with a minor in Geology. She feels this has had a profound effect on her landscape painting. As any artist can vouch, the artist must have the greatest possible understanding of the subject that is to be painted. The idea of understanding only the surface aspects of the landscape is not enough. Having a complete understanding of what lies beneath the surface, and how it was formed is essential to a successful landscape painting.
Many of Lorie’s paintings have received their inspiration from landscapes of the Western states, many of which she has traveled extensively in recent times.
Having a keen eye for the “history” of the landscape, she enjoys capturing the essence of the spatial aspects of each potential landscape. Her other passions include riding her Harley Davidson motorcycle and playing the Native American flute.See more of Lorie's work
