Artists share work at John C. Fremont

On Saturday, Jan. 29, several artists from Sierra Artists Gallery were at John C. Fremont Hospital. They were not there for a medical situation, they were there to share their talent. With much care, they hung many pieces of art throughout the district. Some are displayed in the front lobby hall, acute wing hall, surgery hall, Ewing Wing hall, and in the lobby of Clinic II. “We’re very pleased to have our art displayed at the hospital. It’s a win-win situation. It gives our artists more community exposure to their work and it is therapeutic for the hospital’s patients and Ewing Wing residents,” said Sue Rudd, president of Sierra Artists Gallery. She added, “Sixty-two pictures are on display at the hospital at this time, representing work from 16 of our 26 gallery members. Every three months we will change the artwork displayed. The pieces are offered for sale, and the prices are marked on each piece. This is affordable original art. If you wish to purchase one of the displayed pictures, just contact the gallery at (209) 966-2284, or come to the gallery, located at the corner of 6th Street and Highway 140.” The Sierra Artists Gallery is the oldest gallery in Mariposa County and was established in 1969. The gallery features artwork in oil paint, watercolors, colored pencil, acrylics, photography, gourds, jewelry, and more. A range of works are offered, still lifes, portraits, florals, Western, landscapes, Yosemite and wild life, to name a few. “Our employees are delighted with the Sierra Artists display. We know our residents and patients are enjoying the pictures, so are we,” said Jean Kiser, RN.
