A long time California resident, Joan says: "I find the countryside an ever- exciting environment with challenges in which to study light, form and texture. I paint whatever subject piques my curiosity at the moment from flowers to chickens; from still life to seascapes and landscapes. " Joan's strong expressive art is created in oil, watercolor, and acrylic. She continues to attend workshops and has received instructions from Mark Gudmundsen, Donald Putman, Dean Packer, and most recently Barbara Stanton's class on miniatures. Joan believes that each individual has an artistic "signature" as distinctive as their handwriting that makes the work uniquely their own. As Crosby states: I point for self-satisfaction, enjoying myself and the rewards it brings. When the work is also appreciated by a buyer, it is like icing on the cake.
Joan's art is owned by private collectors in the United States, Sweden, Japan, and Nova Scotia. Her fine arts awards are numerous and were received in arts shows and the Mariposa Fair. Joan has been a Sierra Artists Gallery member for over ten years. In recent years she has devoted herself to doing miniature paintings and does larger things by commission only.
